State of Truth – April 2015 to January 2017

2015-02-08-13

Nic formed State of Truth in April 2015 with ex-Flintlock N Roll members Graham McGregor (Bass) and Steven Barr (Drums), ex-Neon Avenue member Connor Cockburn (Guitar) and singer-songwriter Karen Mowat (Vocals). Graham left in the summer of 2015 to focus on work and they recruited bass player Ian Clyne.

The band had their first gig on the 15th September 2015 at the Glen in Dunfermline and shortly after drummer Steven Barr left to focus on his other band Archives.

State of Truth then focused on writing and hit the studio at the start of 2016 to record their first songs of which 3 were released on the 16th of June 2016. They then spent the rest of the year gigging and promoting their release whilst writing new material.

Unfortunately the band split at the start of 2017 due to members needing to focus on other things however their is always the possibility of a return sometime in the future.

Flintlock N Roll   March 2013 to March 2015

Nic formed Flintlock N Roll with singer Jennifer McGregor, drummer Steven Barr and bassist Graham McGregor in 2013. After a month they recruited guitarist Stuart Fury and recorded their first Demo CD in May 2013. After a year of writing and gigging Stuart Fury left to focus on his work and they recruited guitarist Ian Condie. June 2014 saw the release of their Demo CD 1.2 which included two extra songs.  December 2014 saw Flintlock N Roll win the Glen Gates Studios Battle of the Bands Competition however the band then ended at the beginning of 2015 due to musical differences and people needing to focus on other things.

Theatre Shows Worked In

Rent   Uncompromising Artistry Productions   7th – 30th Sep 2015

UAP 3

Uncompromising Artistry Productions is a New York based theatre company and August 2015 saw them bring an amazing production of Rent to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Nic was given the amazing opportunity to play Guitar 1 for this production which sold out nearly every night. From a music point of view it brought his playing on dramatically and he would love to play for more shows in the future. During the run of the show not only did he meet all the amazing cast and people involved with the company but I also got to meet the original Mark, Anthony Rapp.

Rent   Youth Music Theatre Scotland (YMTS)   16th – 17th Oct 2015

YMTS RENT

Nic was given another opportunity to play for a production of Rent with Youth Music Theatre Scotland at the Lochgelly Centre in Fife. This was a completely different experience but was great to be part of this youth production. Nic used to take part in shows with YMTS when he was younger and it was nice for him to return as a professional musician. He hopes to do more shows with them in the future.

Vernon God Little – Edinburgh Napier University/ Queen Margaret University 4th Year Acting for Stage and Screen Students – 4th – 6th Feb 2016

Vernon God Little - Napier

Musically Directed by Fraser Harrington who Nic had worked with on both previous productions of “RENT”, this production featured it’s own challenges. The main one being that there wasn’t actually any notated music for it so he had to work closely with the musical director and other members of the band to put it all together. This show was great fun to play with and it was really good for Nic to work with other students from the University.

Sunshine On Leith – Kelty Musical Association – 4th – 7th May 2016

Sunshine on Leith KMA

Another great experiences that allowed Nic to make a lot of professional contacts. He only found out that he was playing for this show about a week before as he filled in for musician Fraser Harrington. With each show Nic does his confidence and abilities as a musician improves.

Rent – Glasgow Live Productions – 31st August – 3rd September 2016
